On 23rd March 2016 she was appointed by the president of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Andrej Kiska, as a member of the government of the Slovak Republic and also with the management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic.

In February 2017 she was decorated by the French Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Stéphane Le Foll with high state distinction of France „L´Ordre du Mérite Agricole“. In November 2017 Gabriela Matečná was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Government.
